Combine stock, zany fairy tale characters with the well-known tale of the "Princess and the Pea" and you end up with the witty and whimsical musical of Once Upon a Mattress. When no Princess has been found to wed Prince Dauntless, the most unlikely of all is sent to the Queen for approval. The unconventional Princess Winifred defies the role of a standard princess as she swims the moat, scrubs the floor and much more. Naturally, the Queen's ultimate test to find a true Princess has Winifred sleeping atop twenty mattresses with a single pea hidden underneath them. Will she pass the test? Will the Queen allow her to wed Dauntless if she does? Everyone will enjoy this fairy tale with its twist of modernity, humor, and great musical numbers.
